Open Letter To Membership
October 15th, 2010
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I am writing as Administrator, and on behalf of the Board of Officers to advise the membership of our dire need of business. First of all, let me assure you that, in this letter, we are not asking for donations, just involvement. The new board has worked together to keep your Lodge open and we are now struggling to pay the bills because of the lack of member participation. For instance, we need younger help in our kitchen so that our older members do not die from heat exhaustion. “I pay my dues, shouldn’t that be enough?” A common misconception is that the Lodge keeps all of the money when a person becomes a new member or when an existing member pays their dues. This is not true; in fact when a new or an existing member pays their dues, the Lodge only keeps $28.00 of the total amount. The rest goes to Moose International and The Illinois Moose Association. In order to sustain this Lodge we need your camaraderie. To operate this Lodge in an average month, we have to write a number of checks. Here is an average itemized monthly list (which we still have to pay even if no one comes down):
Waste Management $ 91.73
AT&T $ $290.07
Direct TV $ 59.99 ComEd $ 650.00
City of Aurora (Water) $ 60.00
City of Aurora (Taxes) $ 80.00
Alarm Detection Systems $ 200.00 Indiana Insurance $ 511.16
Fox Metro $ 70.00 Nicor $ 200.00
Real Estate Taxes $ 125.00
(Not to mention the fees for our 2 liquor licenses (City and State) which are $2200 per year (each), dues to Moose International and Illinois Moose Association for DRAMSHOP Insurance, and the printing and postage of our newsletters)
“Why should I come down?” you ask. There are a number of reasons. We have new bartenders and management, We have new membership incentives like “Sign two members this year and your next year’s dues are free,” “Every Member Sign a Member”, We are in a safer part of town (as compared to Redwood Drive), and most of all We want to give you a place to relax. Consequently, if we do not sustain this Lodge, the keys will be handed over to Moose International and Aurora #400 will be just a memory. We do not want this to happen because there has been a Moose Lodge in Aurora for almost 100 years and we don’t want this to change. Once again, we are not asking for your money, we are just asking for your participation, and most importantly your fellowship.
